Frost Festival draws large crowds the first few days

Key Takeaways:

  • The first weekend of Regina’s first Frost Festival attracted visitors from all over the city who came to enjoy the cold.
  • Monday through Wednesday are expected to be quieter, but as the weather warms up and another weekend approaches, Reid anticipates a surge in business.

The first weekend of Regina’s first Frost Festival drew crowds from all over the city who were enjoying the cold.

The downtown and warehouse districts were busy Saturday, according to Tim Reid, the president as well as CEO of Regina Exhibition Associated Limited (REAL), and over 6,300 people attended events on the REAL campus.

“This is probably more than ever a time when positive moments and a little bit of joy are needed,” Reid said. “Not only are these difficult times, but they are also relatively dark months when we all try to stay at home.” Seeing thousands of people come together to celebrate winter and bring it to life is exactly what we hoped for.”

Confederation Park was packed with families on Sunday.

Derek Barnes described it as a wonderful way to spend time with his family.

“They’re having a blast out here with the slide and the ice sculptures,” Barnes said. “It’s just a good excuse to leave the house.”

Frost Festival, he hopes, will become an annual event.

Some children told CTV News that the event was fantastic and that their favorite parts were the ice slide and the snow maze.

Monday through Wednesday are expected to be quieter, but as the weather warms up and they approach another weekend, Reid expects things to pick up.

He said that families planning to attend the festival should plan on staying for a few hours.

“Be sure to bring your snow pants, boots, and a change of clothes,” Reid advised. “When you get cold, go into the Harvard lounge, glow, or the bouncy tents to warm up.” This is really about having an indoor and outdoor experience.”
