Sask. mom opens support group after her daughter died due to fentanyl poisoning

The mother who lost her 18-year-old daughter to fentanyl poisoning has decided to open Healing Hearts Group, to support those affected by a drug overdose.

The mom of a lady who died from fentanyl poisoning in early 2019 is setting up a help institution in Regina for those who, like her, are grieving the loss of those who’ve died from the drug.

In early February 2019, officials from the Regina Police Service instructed her that they’d discovered her 18-year-old daughter, Rachel, lifeless in a college dorm room in Edmonton after a group of workers checked up on her at the request of her parents. It took 4 months for Balfour’s family to learn she had died from fentanyl poisoning.

After her loss, she turned paralyzed with grief. But she found out she wasn’t the only one whose life was tormented by fentanyl poisoning.

Heather stated that once Rachel’s death, she turned into approached with the aid of using those who stated their nephew, neighbor, or a person else they knew had died from fentanyl poisoning.

It’s why Heather has set up a Healing Hearts bereavement help institution in Regina for those who, like her, have lost a cherished one to substance use-associated harm.

So far, there had been 81 drug toxicity deaths in Regina in 2021, sixty-nine of which covered fentanyl, in keeping with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Healing Hearts is a national enterprise of peer-led help for households grieving from those losses. Participants share a number of the very private tales and hardships they face and also sign confidentiality agreements to maintain discretion.
